I’m in Toronto now, and so is my good friend, Francis Tapon.
Francis is an American author, world traveller, and podcaster known for his work with Wanderlearn. With a degree from Harvard Business School, he initially worked in the corporate sector before dedicating himself to full-time travel.
ADVENTURES ACROSS AFRICA
Francis has visited all 54 African countries without leaving the continent, an experience he talks about in his upcoming book, “The Unseen Africa.” During his travels, he attempted to climb the highest peak in each country and also picked up 3000 hitchhikers. H He talked about that in a previous episode of The Radio Vagabond and in one of his three TEDx talks.
WHO ARE YOU?
Please spend five minutes taking a the survey – tell me a bit about who you are and what you would like more or less on here on The Radio Vagabond.
THE TRIPLE CROWN OF HIKING
Francis also completed the Triple Crown of Hiking, which includes the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail. This remarkable achievement showcases his dedication to exploring the world on foot and immersing himself in nature.
THE WANDERLEARN PODCAST
His Wanderlearn podcast features travel tips, adventures, and interviews with travelers and experts, covering culture, history, and practical advice. It’s a treasure trove for anyone interested in learning about different parts of the world from a seasoned traveler’s perspective.
INSIGHTS INTO EASTERN EUROPE
Additionally, Francis published the book “The Hidden Europe: What Eastern Europeans Can Teach Us,” where he shares insights into Eastern Europe. He promotes slow, immersive travel to deeply understand and appreciate different cultures, encouraging others to explore the world with curiosity and an open mind. I’m proud to call him my friend.
A PERSONAL CONNECTION
When we met a few days ago here in Toronto, we decided to slap on a few microphones and interview each other about what we do, who we are, how we travel, and why we travel as much as we do. Our conversation was spontaneous and insightful, reflecting our shared passion for discovering new places and cultures.
RECORDED WITH NOMONO
This conversation is recorded with a wireless microphone set called Nomono. It’s from a Norwegian start-up that’s changing the game for recording on the go. This thing is awesome!
Once I’ve recorded, I connect it to their app, and it automatically uploads to the cloud. And with a few clicks, I can use AI to enhance the sound quality, making it really top-notch – even in a noisy environment. It’s incredibly easy to use, perfect for anyone wanting to capture professional audio without the hassle. If you’re curious and want to learn more, check out their website at nomono.co. Give it a look, you won’t be disappointed!
MORE ON WANDERLEARN PODCAST
As mentioned in the beginning, this episode is also available over on Wanderlearn. We actually continued our chat in the garden and talked a lot about the situation in the world right now. The US Election, the situation in Ukraine, Gaza, and Taiwan, and so much more. Go to Wanderlearn and hear that – plus all the other great stuff Francis has over there.
My name is Palle Bo, and I gotta keep moving. See you.
EXTRA: I WAS ON THE RADIO IN TORONTO
Once you’re done with the episode, you can continue with this video. It’s a recording from when I was a guest on the Jerry Agar Show on NEWSTALK1010 in Toronto.
